Libraries can expand access to timely and trusted scholarship with the Project MUSE Journals PLUS+ Package, a large bundle of journal titles that are part of the journal hosting program on the MUSE platform. These titles are not included in any of MUSE’s curated journal collections. With a discounted bundle price, the PLUS+ Package is an affordable and convenient way to add vital, current, peer-reviewed literature to a library’s collection, and support academy-owned and independent non-profit publishers.

For 2024, the PLUS+ Package includes more than 75 journals from nearly 40 distinguished not-for-profit publishers – including all titles published by the Modern Humanities Research Association and the Royal Irish Academy. The package provides access to the latest research across a variety of core and emerging disciplines, with titles including Black History Bulletin, Science Fiction Studies, Feminist Studies, CLA Journal, World Literature Today, and Modern Language Review.

The PLUS+ Package enhances both depth and breadth of coverage for the humanities and social sciences, supporting both curricular and research needs. “There are a great number of University Press e-journals that we had subscribed to in the past that have gotten harder and harder to find,” said Nancy Donahoo, Manager of Serials, Continuing Resources & Government Documents at Boise State University. “The MUSE PLUS+ Package covers those titles.”

First made available in 2022, the PLUS+ Package was previously named the Premium Plus — the name has been updated to reflect that it offers essential titles and excellent value, whether subscribed to on its own or in combination with one of MUSE's large interdisciplinary, curated journal collections. Libraries that subscribe to both the MUSE Premium Collection and the PLUS+ Package have access to current content, plus all available backfiles, for nearly every journal on the MUSE platform.

Subscriptions to the PLUS+ Package run on a calendar year term, in sync with subscriptions to MUSE's curated collections, and may be ordered or renewed via the usual consortium or agent channels. The package is offered at a 5% discount from the sum of the individual annual subscription fees for the included titles, and modest additional discounts may be available by ordering via one of MUSE's consortium partners.

With the contraction in affordable, mission-aligned hosting options for not-for-profit scholarly publishers, Project MUSE’s journal hosting program has experienced dynamic growthThe program allows publishers to take advantage of the many benefits of being on the MUSE platform, including search and discovery functionality, efficient production and metadata services, support for evolving publishing standards, robust usage data and analytics, and exposure to the millions of scholars, students, and libraries using MUSE resources worldwide. All titles in the program are peer-reviewed and come from not-for-profit scholarly publishers. The PLUS+ Package is updated annually to include any newly-hosted journals that choose to participate.

Libraries may contact the MUSE Sales Team or their preferred consortium for more information on subscribing to the 2024 PLUS+ Package.
